Many trip reports I read on Jay Mountain hike mention the mile and a half walk on the ridgeline to the eastern summit, after reaching the western summit, can be quite confusing. I've done over 25 peaks in the ADKs and though this is not one of them, I was happy to know that such an amazing hike was only 1.5 hours from Albany. It was unexpected, and the “loop” is more like a lollipop shape. First 2.4 miles are easy a few muddy spots, but the fallen leaves cover it up well.
